There is no law, state or local, that requires you to buy a container for the safekeeping of cremated remains. However, an urn does allow for a fitting memorial tribute for your loved one. Though urns all have the same basic purpose, they are each as unique as the people they memorialize and ensure that their memories stay alive for generations.
Urns may be buried, with or without an urn vault. They also may be kept at home, or placed in a niche at a special columbarium at a nearby cemetery. Urns designed for cremated remains are available in a wide variety of materials and styles, including wood, bronze, metal, marble, glass, or ceramic.
